Taraji is the best character on Empire (funny and over-the-top), but I think Trai Byers (Andre) is the best actor. He's giving the best performance. It isn't easy to play a bipolar without being hammy and over-the-top but he is the only one who doesn't seem like he's on a soap. You're the only one saying this. Out of all the male characters in the show he has consistently overall gave the best performance of the season as a main character. His elevator breakdown, his scene in the boardroom, his interactions with his mom, dad and brothers while subdue is still better than anything Jamal and Hakeen have given all season. Jamal is so cringeworthy with his role at times. Especially when he breaks out in song.
