It's not quite the same, but a weird case was Waves by Mr. Probz. It had already sold 1 million in the UK, then they released a remix with T.I. and Chris Brown. It was just so late, and after a song has sold a million you wouldn't think it'd need any more promotion. The remix might've been more for the US.
