High School = 11-16 (compulsory). Usually get GCSE qualifications at the end.
College = 16-18 (optional?). Usually get A-level qualifications at the end.
University = 18+ (optional). Usually get a degree at the end.

basically, you (usually) have school until you're 16. then you can choose to college, and how long you're there depends on what you do, but typically if you do a-levels (which is 3 or 4 subjects of your choosing) you're there for 2 years, and then you go to university after.

college is still optional, it's just that people now have to stay in "full-time education" or something until they're 18, but apprenticeships, etc., come under that umbrella.
