Two years is not a decade. Truth of the matter, nobody wants to waste money on Katy's albums compared to her peers. Massive number one singles each time and she only sells 50k first week, then 100k, and then finally cracking 200k the 3rd try? Does she need a song to spend 15 weeks at #1 to crack 300k?
Her audience is not exactly album buyers but she's growing and doing so quite well, oh and Nelly was around in a different sales climate
And Nelly's voice is so....I don't know I just don't see what was so special about her, her image was like BEP plus J.Lo or Beyoncé. I have never heard a Nelly song in pop radio ever (well I've been listening to radio since 2010 and we're in 2015, 5 years and zero Nelly)
