ok this is probably another unpopular opinion so i should probably shut up but i don't think there will ever be a real community beyond the LGBT letters because other sexualities (like asexuals) have way different pasts and experiences and i don't think they can really unify or find anything in common

Since we're on this topic I read this on Tumblr:

Gender does not exist. Gender is not a thing that exists outside of societies ideas. I am so sick of people being offended when people don’t recognize gender. “My gender is real!’ NO. It isn’t. Your stupid label is not real. The only thing that exists is our sex.

What we have is a long history of placing stereotypes based on our sexes. We have created “gender” to match our sex. The only thing i am arguing for is stating that gender does not exist outside of societies construct.

If we removed these ideas of what gender was; we would only be raised based on who we are as individuals.Outside of societies need to separate the sexes, based on its gender roles, we would not be having these issues.

I recognize the issues we have in society, and I am more than aware of the discrimination and ignorance that plagues those outside of the binary societies we live in. I know this. What i am arguing for is to say that gender is not an actual thing outside of these ideas.

You are you. You like what you like. The only reason we have issues is because people believe the were born in the wrong bodies. There are ways of changing that. You can match the appearance of what you want to be. It doesn’t change your gender though! It just means that society has ****ed you over for placing you in box of certain stereotypes that you don’t want to match. You may want to change sex, but gender is not something you can change because gender is based on your portrayal of societies binary stereotypes.

tldr: Your gender is not real. Society makes you believe that it is.

I do agree with this, and I feel the same way about sexuality too. They both are spectrums. However, just as the majority of people are close to being straight on the sexuality spectrum, I feel like most people are close to one of the two binary genders, male and female. Idk though.

Asexuality isn't a sexual orientation though, asexuals don't care for sex just for romantic relationships. Asexuals can be straight/gay/bi.

the point of the lgbtqa community is it's for basically everyone who doesn't identify as straight and/or cisgendered person it doesn't mean that all the members of the community will have the same experiences.

I agree with this too, but will we ever know if the only reason people are mostly close to the binary genders is because of how ingrained they are in our society or if they are just biologically there?

I actually have a close friend who's asexual so I feel like I should have at least some knowledge about asexuals from him but he never talks about it and I wouldn't pressure him into bringing it up.

yeah but...if there's no way to really relate to each other can we really call it a community? and will people really feel any reason to join together that way? i honestly doubt there will ever be an "asexual and gay bar". i don't think this kind of community can have any tangible existence. am i making sense? like, i mean it's not going to be the same feeling of unification that the first four letters have, and in that way i don't think it should really be considered the same. maybe i'm just overthinking this

Yes it is. An asexual can identify as hetero-romantic, bi-romantic, or homo-romantic, but their sexual orientation meaning who they are sexually attracted to remains asexual. Sexual attraction and romantic attraction are two different things and you can have one without the other.
