MTN was the Alejandro on the BTW era, Gaga's I've-had-success-now-I-can-DWIW moment. The Alejandro video didn't have near the universal praise and replayability of BR and Telephone when it dropped but it was so what Gaga wanted to do, and MTN was Gaga's chance to tell a version of her story without worrying about needing a hit or having any replayability. She was willing to look at points in both videos too. Both were times when the focus was already or was shifting towards touring so I guess Interscope just let her do what she wanted since she was about to make them hundreds of millions.
I love MTN but let's be real, it was never designed to be a hit with that video.
A video isn't always important in single sucess tho. DWUW had no video and it made it Top 10 on Top 40. Did we also forget that Marry the Night has one of the highest debuts ever on that chart?
It was burning hot for a 5th single and it slipped suddenly because people were tired of Gaga that year.
"Hair" was the rightful third single (BTW-TEOG-Hair). Maybe fourth after Y&I to give a little biT of a break between self-empowerment anthems. "Marry the Night" would have only worked as a lead single. Releasing it after, especially as the last single, was messy, but at least Gaga got what she wanted and was happy. They should have followed that example with ARTPOP and "Venus", but I digress.
Bobby better LEARN from Troy's mistakes and NOT put the best album tracks as promo singles. I will not have another "Dark Horse" for the third album in a row. It's messy, semi-unprofessional and shows a lack of planning.

That is true. It's kinda forgotten in the USA though sans it's hook. I haven't seen it chart in the iTunes top 1500 at all in the past two years and I'm pretty sure every other single has at least once (other than maybe something like Marry The Night).
And I asked this like a year ago, but am I still the only one who thinks the repeated piano part of "Paper Godsta" sounds like the Gerudo Valley theme? I can hear it so clearly, especially in the beginning.
