Spotify stats is what stans of flops use (Lana stans, etc.) I mean, who cares if Carlo Jepsen has 1M+ followers on Spotify when only 2 people go see her in concert.
It's dumb to bring up Spotify followers. When Spotify introduced Spotify followers, they automatically made any accounts that listened to an artist multiple times follow that artist.
Which is why:
Carly Rae - 1.5 million
Gotye - 1.9 million
Fun. - 2.6 million
& anyone else who had a huge smash right before Spotify introduced it in 2013, automatically has millions of people following them, though 99% aren't checking for them.
Do people really follow Spotify artists? I only follow my friends. It looks better that way.
This.
I'm on the fence about following artists because I generally find out if new music is out on my own... but what about the super irrelevant artists that I wouldn't otherwise have remembered to check for?
