SNSD played an integral role in shaping the current k-pop scene
I'm not trying to convince you to become a fan, you just need to pay the legends the respect they deserve

I mean, you could be super cynical and say that SM trains their groups for television far better, which is probably partly true, but I think they were a bit lucky with SNSD/SUJU. Especially SNSD who have always been uncharacteristically confident for a girl group on variety shows.
Don't get me wrong though, most girl groups are funny/likeable in behind the scenes footage and reality shows.
I think it's because they know they can get away with literally anything.
I mean, yeah we know all groups are trained to some extent to be appealing to the public, but it's generally not hard to tell where the persona stops and the idol's actual personality begins. With SM, you can tell that SNSD (sans Jessica), SHINee, SuJu, f(x), EXO, etc. all genuinely like each other, and they're seemingly very open whenever asked about one another. You don't see a lot of the plastered-on "We will work harder to become an even better _____, please anticipate it!" from them either. Not saying that makes them better in some respect than other companies, but it's just something I've noticed.
Just in general, SM, YG, sometimes JYP and Cube groups come across as less over-eager to please than most others.

There're some fake stuns in variety shows, but in the end it's all about personality
Like you can't pretend to be funny when you're clearly not funny at all. And i have seen SOME idols tried hard to be funny and failed miserably
