Wait...okay I get SYU's impact but wasn't it knocked out of #1 for We found love? Also, Gotye, John Legend, Sia, Alex Clare, The Lumineers were all out before Adele.
Yes, Adele did end the dance-pop era. She basically made the industry more boring. This year's Grammys were the ultimate example of how basic the industry has become.
The Grammy's were only boring because this past year or 2 have been pretty boring/uneventful.
None of those artists have anything to do with Adele's success tbh (plus John Legend has been successful since the mid 00s). Sam Smith is the only exception. The VH1 You Oughtta Know-type artists have been around long before Adele.
Pretty much. Sam is a result of Adele who is a result of Amy.
It's like this forum opened in 2008 and everyone was just born. Are y'all drunk tonight?
She didn't necessarily end the trend however she did pave the way for other artist like Sam Smith, Imagine Dragon, The Lumineers etc. to smash but since the forum is biased against Adele I doubt they'll give her the props she deserves.
EDM music is still pretty strong, let's not forget the biggest EDM song of the decade came out a couple of months ago (Wake Me Up). Avicci became a huge name during the last year. Calvin Harris keeps scoring hit after hit. Zedd is becoming bigger with every collab and David Guetta is back on track with Dangerous.
Maybe some pop girls stopped doing it but I wouldn't say Adele has anything to do with it in, for example, Nicki Minaj's case.
