Honestly, if Ariana had more quality ballads, or midtempos she'd be slaying right now, but she uses her voice on MOR pop songs that just don't really push albums.

If her next album is full of Ballads with ONE urban bop(Mariah Carey formula) then I think she will see the success her voice should be bringing her. Otherwise I think she will continue to Plateau like she has already done.
