Born This Way, Loud and Teenage Dream sold the same. 100k more or less doesn't really make a difference when most people who have the album have it illegally anyway. Album sales don't really represent much anymore unless they are millions of copies apart (like ARTPOP and Prism).
So the same sales, but WAY more memorable smashes that allow that act to become a much bigger touring force isn't a negative thing This ATRL non-logic of album sales without hits being the ultimate thing
Don't pretend that BTW didn't have its own hits. TEOG and Y&I get plenty of love on radio even today.
They weren't TD or Loud sized hits, but they were enough to elevate her touring status, even from TMB.

well, judging by the stats, i think it is fair to say that katy isn't just a singles artist anymore if her trajectory continues like prism, she was in third behind taylor and beyonce after all (i think, beyonce did sell more right?). her tour is proof of that even if some of the singles bombed.
though it sounds to me like radio and the genre just aren't really here for pop stars anymore unless you are taylor swift. 7/11 is doing decent i guess.
