This song is such a great tune when you feel like the underdog. I remember losing out big time at a speech tournament a few weeks back and listening to this on the ride home. It really prompts you get back up and show them bitches what's up.

Released on June 11, 1991, Love Hurts was Cher's 20th studio album. It debuted at #48 on the Billboard Albums Chart ( ), and is certified Gold in the U.S. with sales of around 600,000. Cher has stated that the album was for ..."Every man that ever made [her] shed a tear." Receiving a rather cold response from the U.S., the album went on to much greater success in the U.K., notching a top 10 spot on the singles chart with the lead single Love and Understanding. The European version of the album contained The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in his Kiss), which went #1 in several countries, including Britain and Ireland. The album as a whole went #1 in the U.K. and stayed there for six weeks, becoming the best-selling female album of the year. It has sold approximately 3 million copies worlwide. The album, like every other album ever made in the history of music, concerns love (or, more aptly, the lack of it). The record contained 4 covers and 8 original songs, though each cover is obviously better than their respective first renderings. Then-contemporary critics were split between praising the album as mature and attacking it as formulaic. Either way, Love Hurts marked the end of "rock Cher" as she has become known at the time. It was her last album of new material on the Geffen label, and her last original record until the 1995 It's A Man's World. Could've Been You The fourth European single from Cher's 1991 Love Hurts album, "Could've Been You" is a cover of the Bob Halligan song of the same name (from Halligan's 1991 Window in the Wall record). It peaked at #31 on the U.K. Singles Chart and #75 on the German Singles Chart. The song serves as a message to an ex-lover seeking reconciliation. While she bemoans the loss of the relationship in the first verse, Cher isn't sad because she's found another boy. She coyly shows off her new man, telling her ex that "When you see the smile on his face, Just remember, baby, Could've been you".
