The part in bold is the point. The fact that they are white is secondary. It is the reason why The Fame lost to Arcade Fire even though Gaga was more of a success. It is the reason why pop girls, white or black, never see a win in the AOTY category. The voting committee likes rock music.

It is not a race issue, it is that the taste of the voters are overwhelming in one genre.

You assuming that everyone defending Beck is white is ignorant in itself. I'm a POC and I'm very much aware of the politics at play behind the scenes, but I don't think it makes Beck and less of an artist. If you're nominated, that means you're deserving of the award. Plain and simple. The award will always go to the anti-mainstream album, or the album that'll be the biggest "FU" to whatever's popular.
