You're Next is incredible. The Strangers is incredible. Yall need to STOP comparing these films because they're totally different. The Strangers is straight up horror, You're Next is action/satire/horror. Both of them excelled in different ways. The Strangers set an amazing and chilling atmosphere and You're Next had really creative death scenes.

I tried watching it last night but I was 30 minutes into it and was bored. The idea was cool but the production value is nonexistent and the plot wasn't what I expected (I thought it'd be some Saw/Hostel type ****). I skipped through the rest of the movie and it looked like trash so I don't regret it.

You're Next was predictable trash. The Strangers might have not brought anything new, but it was more effective than its successors and predecessors (Ils). I mean not every movie is gonna bring something new, 99% are copies of former films - if it isn't the 20th remake. Therefore, you break the criticism down and when it comes to it... You're Next with its bad acting, predictability, flaccid excuse of a "twist" and forced "character development" just doesn't make the cut.


It's struggle to find a distributor and subsequent box-office failure when it finally did confirms this.

So, The Strangers was not completely predictable from the very start?

It was an Indie film and the box office failure was predictable since it was not advertised heavily. And success does not equal quality.

sure the strangers is pretty realistic but i didnt care. by the end i just wanted them both to die because theyre so painfully stupid and it was super drawn out. also that ending... girl

youre next is at least fun and i found myself really liking the characters + it had creative death scenes and a good ending too.

I would like to see how YOU would react in a similar situation. Masked psychos attacking your home, you can't call anyone, you can't leave your house, them being already IN your house. Are you kidding me?

Y'all act like you are Tomb Raider's reincarnation or some ****. You would probably faint INSTANTLY from the paranoia, let alone fight all of them back and manage to get out of the situation alive, unharmed and completely sane.

This is why this movie is so realistic. Because most victims would react the exact same way.

they made some dumb decisions like you never separate... and i don't know why they moved from their hiding spot either. there's no reason to get so mad about this people are allowed to not like this movie.

You're NExt was promoted A LOT. They made me so hyped about that movie and made it seem so badass and like an actual horror film. There were posters with the animals EVERYWHERE.

I feel the EXACT same way. I am probably one of the very few that didn't like Cabin in the woods. I see all these people here praising it and im like

Cabin in the woods IS NOT horror. Its a comedy/parody, and it should be labeled under Comedy and not horror. Just because a movie has monsters, zombies, stupid teenagers and an abandoned cabin DOES NOT make it horror. The fact that made me furious about it is that it was labeled AND promoted as a horror defining film.

HELL NO. If it was promoted as a comedy/parody i would have been perfectly fine with it. Yes, it was smart and original. Much like how Scary Movie 1 was. But Scary Movie 1 is NOT horror. Same case with Cabin In The woods.

I'm not saying the movie is bad, it's just NOT horror and should not be considered horror by ANYONE.

all of your absolutism is what is wrong about your opinion on what horror is, because as with any genre of.. well, anything, there are multiple facets and layers of what something is / can be.

so... ya, it is a horror movie actually. pretty clear cut too, it's just a specific kind of film.

Yeah, there is a sub-genre, Comedy Horror. Cabin in the woods and You're Next are NOT it. they are PARODIES of actual horror films. Like Scary Movie. Hence, they are COMEDIES.

A comedy horror film is an actual horror film with some sense of black humor. Not stupidity, and parodied scenes that make fun of actual horror films.
