Just because he favors one way of performing over the other, doesn't mean the rest shouldn't enjoy what they enjoy. In the same manner, he has the same right, but, the way he worded it came off too pretentious and stuck up as in: "My taste is better than yours just because I enjoy classical, old stuff".

In the context of Sinatra and the old Hollywood jazz clubs and lounges, I picture him wanting to see more music like that. You can be sexy in a ball gown or something. Like Jessica Rabbit. Sultry and glamorous.

But he could have expanded on his meaning to avoid uproar like this.
