BS music video has accrued 395 million views on vevo faster than Wrecking Ball did, in 2.5 months compared to 3 months. SIO music video has got more than 500 millon views in just over 5 months. Taylor is racking up those youtube views in this era like never before. When Style music video drops, it also will have a massive effect.

Style already passed the Gold mark, weeks before it's official add dates and without even a music video. It wasn't a promo single. It is doing fine.

That doesn't mean it's a guaranteed smash. Dark Horse was a multiplatinum #1 hit before it got a music video

His album has entered Spotify's Top 100 Albums.

Where did this fanbase that never supported him from come from once he released under 50 Shades of Grey?


And now Ellie's who last Lead Single was almost out the Top 100 by this time (with more airplay) + has never had a single stay this long in Top 40 with radio support is in the Top 10.

Did she magically get this fanbase while taking a break from the era?

Anyone discrediting Ellie needs to stop, and anyone comparing Taylor and Ellie needs to do the same. The two singles are NOT logically comparable at all -- only that they will be simultaneous smashes during the next few months. Both songs will end up doing really well.

Also, Ellie has had a slow but steady climb in star power since 2011. People are listening for her, and she is slowly building up her US fanbase more than almost any other UK pop star. "Burn" shot to #8 on its first day on iTunes (US), so singles from her own albums do quite well on their own, thank you.

Yes. She has 2 hits as a lead artist. She isn't a threat nor someone who can occupy iTunes Top 10 for 3 weeks 'on her fanbase and star power'. Neither is The Weeknd, and this has been proven by all their singles before.

Dark Horse was a promo single and was performed at both the Grammy Awards and the Brit Awards before it got a music video. That's why it was a multiplatinum hit by the time it got a music video.

NO ONE is top 10 for 3 weeks based on star power. That's why a song like CRTFY flopped right off the bat after reaching top 10. Star power only gets you through week one. People connecting with the song gets you everything past that.

Ellie has always had a good base since Lights and Burn.
These songs are doing well because they are good.

Songs from bigger artists and bigger soundtracks have failed to do this well. How do you explain that?

It was #1 for 4 weeks before it got a music video. It had been #1 on iTunes for weeks before the Grammys performance. BRITS don't do anything in the US.

You're right though, Style could gain a lot from a Grammys performance. If its top 5 on iTunes before it could certainly jump to #1, but she has to get to that top 5 first and make sure songs like LMLYD don't block it, which is very possible.

You fail to realize that relatively new and talented artists tend to gain more fans as their era progresses. They get bigger and the GP becomes familiar with them.
Not all artists decline era after era.
