Shake It Off isn't even 4x platinum yet while I'm pretty sure Royals was nearing 5x platinum at this time last year. So you can't really just compare their positions
And she got the huge boost because she actually won song of the year. I highly doubt Taylor will win that for Shake It Off but well the nomination are so bad this year.
SIO doesn't deserve SOTY. TMtC deserves that award completely, but SWM would be a decent winner as well.
