I think social media made it easier for a longer career. Now people can keep in touch of their faves all the time, but back then it wasn't like that and thus your fans can be easily poached. It's easier to be global now, but that's thanks to streaming services also.

She did have a massive peak, but longevity isn't always the best way to measure a legacy. Compare her to MJ, who she long outlasted for obvious reasons, yet we all know which one was more successful, respected, and reached out to the current generation.
