Troye's sound is more similar to that of Bastille than Lorde and he's a big fan of Indie pop (I follow him on Spotify) so it makes sense he would go in that direction.
His songs are nice and I really like HLP, but I don't that his lyrics make him sound more deep than he actually is. If you watch the BTS of he Happy Little Pill video, he doesn't have a grasp on the symbolism behind these scenes of that video. He just does things for the "cool aesthetic".
