Toxic was not risky. What did she have to risk? Her radio power was pretty much dead up until Toxic revived it. And Toxic can be put in the same category as Dragosta Din Tei and I'm Outta Love as huge 2004 dance hits. There's nothing risky about that. It's even a rejected demo.
Except both TD and TTWE are very acclaimed (like geez why are you still using this card). Are both songs deserving of their acclaim? No. Critics are a joke! Stop using them as some sort of receipt.
And you don't need to tell me since I prefer Toxic. And I wouldn't say Max Martin's sound is forgettable, but it's interesting how Firework of all songs outlasted the rest of Katy her #1 hits.
