23. Cheryl Cole – I Don’t Care

20. Lea Michele - Battlefield "You and I / We have to let each other go / We keep holding on but we both know / What seemed like a good idea has turned into a battlefield... / We seemed like a good idea"
“Battlefield” slayed me early in 2014 and truly deserves its spot in my Top 20. I think this is the most heartfelt track on Lea Michele’s album because you can so clearly hear the emotion in her voice as she sings. Sometimes love can seem like a good idea, but in reality, it can be war on the mind, heart, and soul. Needless to say, this is my favorite track on Lea’s slbum.
19. Knuckle Puck - No Good (Acoustic) "Where's your respect? / And didn't your father teach you anything before he left?... / It's people just like you who made me the pessimist I am... / Don't point your unloaded gun at my head ever again / Don't point your unloaded gun at my head, 'cause I'll pull the trigger"
Ugh, if you don’t listen to this song, at least read the partial lyrics above. This song is amazing. It’s impossible to put my finger on even one thing I like about this song because each and every lyric is flawless. This song is all about the words we speak, and the effect they can have on our own state of mind. “No Good” is the highlight of the theme of young adult angst coursing through these latest updates.
18. Elder Brother - Who's Gonna Carry You Home "If I walk away then who's gonna carry you home? / If I walk away then who's gonna carry you home? / We may have had a bit too much, but no one has to know / But if I walk away then who's gonna carry you home? / I'll carry you home"
“Who’s Gonna Carry You Home” was an unexpected find for me in 2014. The singer’s voice is just perfection, and the lyrics carry with them a perfect sense of longing. I found myself singing along to this song quite often, especially the catchy, repetitive chorus. With only an acoustic guitar as an instrumental backdrop, there’s nowhere to hide on this song. ATRL, please get into this jam.
17. Miranda Lambert - Automatic "Hey, whatever happened to waitin' your turn? / Doing it all by hand? / 'Cause when everything is handed to you / It's only worth as much as the time put in / It all just seemed so good the way we had it / Back before everything became automatic"
Sometimes, a song just clicks with you. That’s exactly what happened when I listened to “Automatic” by Miranda Lambert for the first time. Based on the past Miranda songs I had heard, I did not like her or her music at all. “Automatic” is all about wishing for things the way they used to be, when life was simpler. I’m glad Miranda released a single like this because this was exactly the type of release I needed in 2014.
16. New Hollow - She Ain`t You "It's been awhile since I saw your face / Maybe that's helped me move on... / She's got your hair / She's got your eyes / She's got your exact same horoscope sign / She may be pretty / She's something new / But that means nothing / She ain't you"
I’m not sure how this song slipped under the radar of pop radio. “She Ain’t You” by New Hollow sounds like radio candy, but it stalled before it made any real impact on the charts at all. Lyrically, I love this song as well and I would hold it to the standard of songwriting that I want to achieve. Comparing your current flame to a past love is never a good idea, but New Hollow accomplishes putting these emotions into lyrics FLAWLESSLY in their debut single. I love it. ATRL, get into this too.
15. Avril Lavigne - Hello Kitty "Come come Kitty Kitty / You're so pretty pretty / Don't go Kitty Kitty / Stay with me / Come come Kitty Kitty / You're so silly silly / Don't go Kitty Kitty / Play with me / K-k-k-kawaii / Hello Kitty, hello Kitty / Hello Kitty, you're so pretty / Hello Kitty, hello Kitty / Hello Kitty, you're so silly"
Ready for a polarizing BOP? Avril Lavigne returns to my Top 100 of 2014 with ha magnum opus, “Hello Kitty.” This song is just fun. I love the colors and the carelessness of the music video; the fact that this is the second-highest charting single of the Avril Lavigne era after “Here’s to Never Growing Up” says a lot. I wouldn’t be terribly disappointed if Avril never recorded a song like this ever again, but it was fun to hear Queen Empress Lavigne experiment with electronic/dubstep.
Been meaning to get into Knuckle Puck. Keep seeing them in my last.fm recommendations
I think you'd like Knuckle Puck you might like Elder Brother too, Turnover and Front Porch Step from the last update are probably your type of music too
I thought putting New Hollow in the title might get you in here Thanks for commenting,

As I said in the OP, I rank songs based on impact between the backlash against Avril, the #75 peak on the Billboard Hot 100, and Avril being called racist/cultural appropriator because of it, I think Hello Kitty had a ton of impact Thank you for commenting,

14. Rita Ora - I Will Never Let You Down "When you say you've had enough / And you might just give it up / Oh, oh / I will never let you down / When you're feeling low on love / I'll be what you dreaming of / Oh, oh / I will never let you down"
Now we’re getting into the really good songs. I was never really slayed by Rita Ora before I heard “I Will Never Let You Down.” Between the Calvin Harris production and Rita’s vocals, I love everything about this song. Again, I’m disappointed that pop radio dropped this song far too early, because Rita truly deserved to slay the charts with this song. It still sounds amazing and I hope we get to hear the rest of the Rita/Calvin tracks someday.
13. Dan + Shay - 19 You + Me "Watchin' that blonde hair swing / To every song I'd sing / You were California beautiful / I was playin' everything but cool / I can still hear that sound / Of every wave crashin' down / Like the tears we cried / That day we had to leave / It was everything we wanted it to be / The summer of / 19 you and me"
After Kacey Musgraves slayed country audiences, as well as my Top 100 of 2013, one of the highest-charting country songs for me in 2014 is Dan + Shay’s “19 You + Me.” This song is written and performed beautifully and the guy they cast in the music video is perfection. This song could have been a contender for my top ten, but there were simply too many great songs released in 2014 to fit them all in the positions that I felt they deserved.
12. Becky G - Shower "Think of you when I'm going to bed / When I wake up think of you again / You are my homie, lover and friend / Exactly why / You light me up inside / Like the 4th of July / Whenever you're around / I always seem to smile / And people ask me how / Well you're the reason why / I'm dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower"
So close to the top ten. After Becky G spent a fair amount of time as the laughing stock of ATRL, she slayed the entire forum with ha flawless sing, “Shower.” “Shower” is a perfect pop song, and I’d go as far as to say it’s one of the best pop songs released in 2014. “Shower” managed to reach the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100, which is great, but I wish this could have been a top ten hit for Queen Becky G. I can’t wait for ha slayage in 2015!
11. 5 Seconds of Summer - Amnesia "I drove by all the places we used to hang out getting wasted... / If what we had was real, how could you be fine? / 'Cause I'm not fine at all / I remember the day you told me you were leaving / I remember the make-up running down your face / And the dreams you left behind you didn't need them / Like every single wish we ever made / I wish that I could wake up with amnesia / And forget about the stupid little things / Like the way it felt to fall asleep next to you / And the memories I never can escape / 'Cause I'm not fine at all"
I wish this song was in the top ten too So many close calls and this was definitely the most deserving “Amnesia” is one of the most flawlessly written singles of 2014. When someone who used to mean the world to you exits your life, sometimes all you want to do is forget. 5SOS puts their own spin on that feeling – wishing that waking up with amnesia was possible because forgetting all of the memories is an impossible feat. Flawless lyrics + Luke’s cuteness =
Anaconda, Blank Space and Black Widow
First Love and Burn With You
I Don't Care and Not On Drugs
Battlefield is one of my favorite songs from the album
Your taste is actually flawless
SHOWER and I WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN
