It's an Australian thing. Triple J Hottest 100. Once a year on Australia Day (January 26th). Leading up to Australia day, people vote and then on the Australia Day weekend the Top 100 countdown is played on the Triple J radio station.

The Lord wasn't even on the PROPER voting list, but you can still add tracks manually yourself when you vote, but the option for Shake It Off or Taylor Swift wasn't there if you searched for it on the voting website. Which is why the #Tay4Hottest100 trend was started to get them to add it in.
But anyway... Triple J is a weird radio station, and to be honest they pay more attention to Indie acts most of the time etc. It's kind of random. I think it's an over-rated mess, but some people take it so seriously.

Check the list and you'll see some of the Top 10's over the last few years.
