So it was because of Lincoln you ended slavery? Didn't he also do some Amendment thingy?
Essentially. Slavery basically existed until the late 1940s with sharecropping though, a legal way to basically force someone into a debt that could never be paid off. A shame Lincoln died when he did because Reconstruction was just as shameful. It gets glossed over in most public schools but it just made legal life for African-Americans even harder. They basically just said "okay, you're free, don't badger us anymore" and did very little to help former slaves assimilate and learn to embrace their new freedoms. It's sickening IMHO.

Fun fact: Michael Keaton's son has written the songs "Wiggle," "Talk Dirty," and "Heart Attack," among others.

Kinda wish movies would delve into that topic more. Lots of movies on slavery (and deservedly so) but more ppl need to be aware of the consequences of Reconstruction too.
So the filming of Selma was wrapped up, finalised in July 2014, literally a month before Mike Brown and Ferguson.
I think, even if Ferguson hadn't happened, Selma would have been talked about but not in so vehemently a way it is now because of this new activism/movement that's happening across the world. It's still so baffling how it took so long for a movie (partially) on MLK to form.

But wow, stan. One of the best shows on television. You should get into Penny Dreadful before season 2 starts. The first season only has 8 episodes, you could binge-watch that within 2 days.
It sounds a bit more adventurous than I expected. It's meh...don't hate it but I don't love it either.
Same here. I was waiting for her to break out into a shouty chorus about hating men, which didn't happen. Progress for her.
Random, but what are your thoughts on this song? I don't get the hate for it; the melody is amazing and the vocals aren't good, but they make sense in context.
