it's a really impressive lesson in marketing
katy doesn't instil faith in consumers. people see she's a talentless hack and she thinks her humble 'i'm goofy and relateable and don't take this seriously' attitude helps her out but ultimately it just makes people think she isn't worth investing more than $1.29 in.
taylor always presents her albums with such exclusivity (my first pop record, exclusive polaroids, you should have to buy this album bc i spent so much time on it; too good 4 streaming). it's like a qvc ad. plus she has a 'reputable' country background and everyone knows she's talented.
spamming your big hits everywhere with sloppy attention to everything else doesn't give impressive album sales, it's what safety will never learn + why she'll always be quick lil hits driven.
