Does Only One sample anything? The beginning of the chorus is good but the melody sounds familiar. The song too stripped down/minimal for Kanye's voice to carry. He just doesn't have the chops to make it work.

The minimal production makes it intriguing as a Kanye song, and the carefully chosen elements that are there are what carry the emotion, not the lyrics. You don't even need to listen to the lyrics to feel how melancholy yet uplifting it is, because it's all embedded in the melody and production.
