Peter Jackson and Warner Bros. Pictures have won the Australian Boxing Day war after audiences filled into cinemas around the country en mass to see The Hobbit: Battle Of Five Armies.
The third and final film in the Hobbit franchise grossed $5.59million on it's opening day - the biggest of the year and fourth biggest in Australian history.
The only films to score higher opening days in Australia were Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part Two, The Avengers, and the first Hobbit movie, An Unexpected Journey.
