STYLE: THE REMIX EP
The release of Taylor Swift’s single ‘Style’ has caused quite the buzz for the singer-songwriter who’s expected to release her first ever compilation album. This compilation album is the singer’s first ever greatest hits album, entitled Yours: The Greatest Hits. The album is being sold exclusively digitally on iTunes and exclusively on a physical format at Target. Speaking about this decision, Swift stated, “My Greatest Hits album isn’t just a record I’m releasing to make some extra money without investing the money and time in creating an entirely new record. Hell, the first disc alone is old stuff but the second disc along with the DVD, that’s all new stuff. This is stuff made for just the fans so I wanted to make this album exclusive to the retailers who’ve really been nothing but great to me. Those happen to be the absolutely wonderful iTunes and my longtime partner Target. Other retailers will get the album eventually, but it’ll be a few weeks after it’s release. There’s no hard feelings, I hope.”
But today came another release from Taylor Swift under her record label Tigerlily Recordings, which she signed to back in 2013. That was a physical and digital Remix EP of Swift’s brand new single ‘Style’. Released with the same exact cover as the original single, the remix extended play contains five new remixes, including a special remix that’s expected to be released to rhythmic and urban formats soon featuring one of Swift’s favorite artists, The Weeknd. Other tracks on the remix extended play including remixes by Disclosure, The Weeknd, and Blood Orange. Fans were highly surprised to see the EP flooded with so many R&B like remixers but the biggest surprise was that the remixes sounded entirely different than expected, they were in fact more pop than R&B.
"The collaboration with The Weeknd came out of nowhere. I don't think I had any ideas or intentions on ever recording something with him. I don't mean that in an offensive or rude way but I feel as if we come from two different sides of the music genre kind of spectrum thing. I'm pure pop with some influences across the board and he's pretty strictly R&B. To hear him call me up one day and say he wants to get on one of my songs with me is crazy. I'm a fan of his stuff so I definitely didn't reject the offer. It was a really nice experience getting in the studio with to record the track too. It's always fun to get in the studio with new people and definitely see what you can come up with. That's the fun about music and recorded with new people. You never know what will turn out from a studio sessiom that you night not even have an intent on anything making it out of. It's all so unpredictable. You've just got to see how things turn out. At least that's what I like to beelive at least."
The remix ep hit iTunes today and hit shelves physically at midnight in many retailers (Walmart, Best Buy, Target, etc). It was met with a positive response from critics and fans alike, as well as commercially as it received so much attention that it made the top ten on the iTunes album charts in a little less than twenty minutes. Swift’s Greatest Hits album Yours: The Greatest Hits is due out next week

Think of innovative ways to promote your stuff and that should help quite a bit.

Yes, only these three editions. And the exclusive ediiton is yours to choose - it can be Best Buy, Walmart, iTunes, Target, basically whatever you come up with. I chose to let people do only one edition because I feel like some of you would overuse this to get extra points.

Well what about rereleases? Are you asking how many times you can rerelease an album? Just like artists in real life - you can rerelease only one time. And yes, you can do that if you want to, it's all up to you how you want to release those editions.

The Pop King, the one and only Justin Bieber is covering next week's Complex Issue set to hit the shelves. Just what's inside? A special one and only, rare photoshoot along with an extended interview, and on top of that -- sneak peek shots of the music video 'Memphis'. The interview is long, and shows Bieber in a deep sense. He really gives him, and in a new way. The singer has sold over millions of records, and reached stunning heights of fame. Whether it'd been the humongous debut album, 'Thrill Seeker' which yielded 5 hit singles (2 of which became #1 collaborations), or top-seller 'The Complete Dream' which also yielded 5 hit singles, or the latest efforts 'Crossing Paths' and 'Elite' which both teamed up to provide a #1 collaborative single with Eric Saade, and a #1 collaborative album with Selena Gomez. He's made his mark within the Hollywood territory, and now he returns back to the turf with the new, spicy, and Urban leaning single 'Memphis' featuring Detroit-born rapper, Big Sean. The single is apart of the new compilation set to hit stores, 'The Collection & More'. The effort features 30 songs, 10 have never been heard before (4 are demos). The effort includes new songs such as 'Too Good to Lose' hailed a shocking, yet sensual collaboration with Taylor Swift, previous collaborator with 'Time After Time'. It also includes 'Master Technique', 'Grand Scheme', 'Fever', and 'Da Vinci'. The 6 new songs are set to make an uproar online once released to retailers. Just like the past eras of Biebs. But for now, let's divulge into the limited interview. Part of the Complex.com exclusive; we have part of the interview featured in the upcoming magazine issue.
"So, what's the deal on how this new album will be? No, not 'The Collection & More' -- but your upcoming album. This one is a quick trip, and not built to be a full era. Will you start working on a full era soon?"
Upcoming music after this hasn't really crossed my head yet, to me that's perfectly fine. I feel as if I've done enough music in such little time. & this isn't me just saying, I'm not doing music, because as a musician I think music will always be apart of me...it's just not a priority. It feels good to say it. It feels good that I'm to this level, that I, myself, have established to where I can just look back and not be worried on 'Hey, I need another single recorded. I need another album to keep myself relevant'. Coming into the door was so hard, why not kick off your shoes and relax once you finally get in? That's what I plan to do.

"I think you're hell of a guy, and you do deserve a break. Now let's talk about this song, 'Memphis'. What's your feel on it?
I'm glad you asked this! I ****ing love the song, like it's just so fly and chill as ****. Me & Big Sean sat in the studio the whole time it was recorded, and were like 'There's no way this WON'T be a single. The radios are gonna eat this up.' It's like a perfect music combination or what currently fits the market; but I like when it's naturally made. Not made to be a hit, not made to purposely be that song. You go along with the flow, and a masterpiece just churns out. That's what happen with this song. & believe me -- it's just begun; the video is about finished, and it's ****ing amazing too. I'm definitely gonna have some fun this time around with this one. It's one of my personal favorites. It's slick, it's fly, it's in the mood. It's my ****. Haha.
"So, we looked at the tracklist, and we noticed a new hit is brewing with friend Taylor Swift. This isn't the first time y'all have worked together, though. Plus, you did that limited-time album with Selena Gomez; and you've worked with her plenty of times. Let's also look at this single -- this is your third time working with Big Sean. What attracts you to working with a circle of people constantly? Do you think it's viewed as a positive or negative thing working with them frequently?"
With me, it's always been about wanting to only work with people these days I generally personally have a good friendship with. I didn't like when I first stepped into the industry, and a collaboration and feature for me was just for sales. As I previously said, I like the music to just churn out on it's own. Not something that's calculated, and set up. I feel like when you work with friends who you're use to making music with, that's when everything is chemistry and naturally falls into place. That's why I'm working with Taylor again, her talent is hella underrated. She'll get into a studio, and work the instruments at her fingertips, help produce, help write, and give me some good ass vocals. I connect with her as a musician, and the song is really good. Can't wait for you guys to hear 'Too Good to Lose'.
The full extended interview will hit the shelves next week, along with the cover and photoshoot of the Complex issue. Be sure to keep up!

Oh, no, you can't do that, since rerelease is just another version of the album.
