So, I listened to the whole Daydream album. I'll just write down all my thoughts about it, and it probably won't be too organized.

This is undoubtedly her peak vocally; she glides through the songs effortlessly and beautifully. The vocals carry the album. On a first listen, I'm usually listening for a good melody and/or production. If you know me well, you'll know that I love songs that are centered and carried around the production. Good vocals aren't necessary to me. I love Mariah though because she has a decent amount in her discography with both great production and vocals. On this album, the songs aren't bad with production at all; the production is just very minimalist. It revolves around the vocals mainly. Mariah's voice is a rarity where it can carry a song alone. I do think that the songs with more interesting production are definitely better (Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Daydream Interlude, Long Ago). The songs that are more minimalist aren't bad, just a little bit more boring. I do think some of the songs get kinda fillery though. I also found it weird how often the key changes were used on this record (it was at least 4 times, right?). I do think that key changes can lose their spark if they're overdone (which it was a bit), but they were always used very well. Her voice matched it perfectly too.

I can agree with all that you said. I always love it when Mariah plays around with production more.
What did you think of Forever though? It was one of those key change songs but it's probably the closest to being my absolute favorite from Mariah.

Listening to Emotions now. This album is much more of my style. You can definitely hear the Whitney influence in her vocal style though. I love how Daydream is so uniquely Mariah.

I just love Daydream from start to finish, well excluding Long Ago
Daydream album is just perfection, cohessive and the ballads on that album are not basic ballads. The lyric, the climax on each song are everything

That's true. Some people here tell me they don't know her, but then I talk about the Christmas classic and they recognize it
