Lotus was released in November 2012 and has so far sold 290,000 copies in the US and about 400,000 copies worldwide. It's her lowest selling and lowest peaking album to date and it was ruthlessly panned by the critics. It never turned into an actual era and it remains the only album campaign by a major popstar to only have 1 video and 1 single. She recently admitted that the whole album was uninspired and that she found her motivation again when she recorded "Say Something". During the Lotus era, she delivered some of the worst vocals and most embarassing appearances and outfits of her career. Yet, she's still here, more beautiful and more motivated than ever, ready to come back in just months from now!
Overall, while there's no doubt that Lotus was a disaster, it was the only time in her entire career that we had to wait just 2 years for a new album. Lotus bridged the wait between the underrated gem Bionic and the upcoming album and it delivered more Christina music. Some of it was good, some of it wasn't, but it's still new Legend X vocals, lyrics and concepts, so we've come to appreciate it for what it is.
So, here's to not disowning Lotus. It only made us stronger!
