Random tangent: This dumbass the other day had the nerve to talk about how Africans loved their culture and it is great to see that, but black Americans don't love their African culture and don't show pride. First off all, Africa is a continent and generalizing a whole ass continent of having one culture is ignorant. Second off, we can't love a culture we don't know we're a part of. Like my *****, how can I be proud of being Nigerian if I don't know I'm from Nigeria? Like, where's the logic? The only culture black Americans have is the one that originates from the survival mechanisms of slavery. Miss me with your tomfoolery.

I agree. My roomate for my freshman year in college was an African from Cameroon, and one of the first things he said to me was "You are not African, I do not understand."
Hit me like a
brick.
Ever since then I have been more pro Black American than African because I've felt that I cannot identify with something that I'm not sure if I'm attached to. I mean, I have a Guyanese Indian father who spent most of his life being Jamaican
I can only communicate the struggle from my perspective, even though I want to identify with Africans with every bone in my body.
