What musical impact?
Let's be real, while the surprise release was groundbreaking and something the industry really benefited from, the music was nothing new. And I also think Beyonce started the feminism trend so I'm not being harsh.
Because it's the end of the year so obviously news outlets are going to release year-end lists and of course they're going to talk about one of the year's most shocking music moments....
That shocking moment happened last year tho, which means it would've been praised on last years year end lists.

Why would a critic be embarrassed to tell the truth about something? That's their job.. to give other opinions people are afraid of giving.
Why are you acting like people said that the hype was the sole reason for the album's critical acclaim? Of course the surprise release contributed to inflating the score to one that it didn't entirely deserve, BUT that doesn't mean the album wasn't great regardless of the release method. The album was definitely justified in receiving praise.
This is another example of Bey stans trying to manipulate history in such a way that it establishes a higher degree of contrast of the previous complaints and eventual success in order to increase the effect of saying "I told you so!!1"
