However, I would say that being light-skinned is somewhat the standard of beauty. In society, at least. In some photos, Rihanna's skin really does look white. I feel like lightskin people are marketed as a "best of both worlds"-type product. Skin light enough to market to white people but also Black and diverse enough to be claimed as a minority. And add in some blonde hair and you've got yourself a perfect racial mix.
Not shade at Bey or Rih, just my two cents on society.

Funnily enough, I don't really consider either to be that light. They definitely aren't dark skinned though... maybe it's because two of my best friends are light and I mean LIGHT
But I agree, lighter skin makes you more marketable generally speaking of course. Whitney, Lauryn and Brandy proves it can still happen.
