RudeBoyy his messy ass spills tea though. Why can straight men sing about nothing but sex, women, etc. but gay men have to water down their lyrics to appeal to everyone? We saw how Adam Lambert was blacklisted after kissing a guy @ the AMAs. Last time I checked, straight men don't give a **** if their music appeals to me as a gay man.
I don't like how Sam Smith is being treated as some revolutionary act for the LGBT community. I love him but he toned down his image, the majority of the GP doesn't even know he's gay + I'll believe change is happening when we can have a gay BLACK artist get tons of hits, Grammys, acclaim, etc.

He got blacklisted because he pushed one his male dancers' head to his crotch as if he was giving oral sex.

i don't really see the problem with Sam Smith singing gender neutral tracks
was 21 not gender neutral out of like 2 tracks???
RITD, SFTTR, Turning Tables, etc
and Sam is amazingly talented...if he started off by saying he was gay and writing songs with "him" and "he" in it...no one would even give him the time of day...not even the as if the gay community...y'all don't even support Adam Lambert so why even bring him up???

Nothing is wrong with Sam being gender-neutral. Let's call a spade a spade; gays want spokespeople for the gay community. If the person is not flamboyant with their sexuality, then they're not proud of it. It's a close-minded way of thinking, and half of the people who aren't even out of the closet are probably the ones doing it and having high expectations for these gay celebrities.
I remember this thread on another board where a poster said that he believes masculine gays do not exist and the ones who act masculine are trying to hide their sexuality. It's sad that gays are put in a box.

This is true. I stand corrected.

Exactly, you just proved my point. If he started using "him" in songs no one would give him the time of day. If Adele wanted to, she could have changed the words to her songs and (arguably!) been just as successful. However, we both know if Sam did it, he would not be here. I'm not upset at Sam Smith, I'm more upset @ our culture. No one can tell me Sam Smith did not water down his image. And then the media (which basically only cares about WHITE gays) talks about him as if he's broken down barriers (which, maybe he has) but I just don't see it that way.
I bought Adam Lambert's last album, Trespassing, by the way. Get into it.

I definitely wouldn't say Sam is ashamed of being gay though and I don't expect a spokesperson. After all, Gaga has handled that for me since no one else has the balls. Just don't pretend that Sam Smith is helping "us" as a community because he hasn't done anything to create a huge change. And that's OK. Not everyone has to be outspoken.

As much as I LOATHE him, Frank Ocean came kinda close.
He publicly came out around his album release (sales hungry) so anyone who was getting into him had to know he was into men. He also had that song about another man loving him, he performed at the Grammys after winning.
I think we could get a gay male if he wasn't too sexual or messy. He could have a songs with he or such, atleast I think.

How come these **** studios don't get sued for these **** parodies of popular people, shows, etc.? I'm not a law student, so I don't know. But I always find it hilarious.

You have to remember Sam Smith described himself (cocky, much? as brave for coming out yet he's on some cowardly ****. I'm not saying he needs to be explicit but as a gay artist who claims being gay is normal you think he would say "he" at least once. Do you realize how hard it must be to make a whole album not mention the gender of this person you love at all? He even changed the lyrics to a Whitney Houston cover.
As said in the thread he's the gay version of the uncle tom. He does not deserve the hype.

i agree...let's blame the culture
but his label saw an opportunity and ran with it...Sam is out now...ppl know it and still enjoy his music
he might not be breaking down barriers but at least it's a start
and Sam is still arguably a still "flamboyant" when it comes to his twitter...you guys have 2 photos of him wearing a wig and being feminine...i haven't seen proof of him dressing like that all the time before he was famous but he still tweets things like "YASSSSSSSSS bitch yassss" and heart emoticon which would usually be taboo

let me play devil's advocate
wouldn't him never saying "she" or "he" be telling??? someone refusing to use gender specific pronouns on an album must be hiding something...doesn't that draw more attention to the situation...thus he wasn't really hiding anything at all

True, but channel ORANGE's success is not on par with Sam Smith's (he's kinda sorta gonna slay the Grammys + he has huge Hot 100 hits). Also, Frank Ocean isn't gay + the first song I ever heard from him (Novacane) is about ****ing a girl.
I do agree, he certainly opened up doors in terms of listeners being OK with a man that likes other men.

All those tweets/pics were from before he became famous. He used to be so open and now.... He's not as bad as I'm saying but I like to exaggerate to make a point.
Also Adam Lambert shoved a guys face in his crotch and got blacklisted while Miley's been acting like a fool for a over a year now and is an feminist activist who has sold millions of copies globally and made millions of dollars in the process. Their's obviously double standards but I think the Vanilla Doughboy could get away with saying "I love him" instead of something generic like "I love them".
Also Sinister the reason he doesn't say he or she is so that straight people who aren't ok with listening to gays or gay relating things will still by his music. He's gay, but his album isn't

The fact that he's not effectively hiding anything wouldn't change the fact that he's actually trying to hide or avoid it, though, which would be the problem.

Someone really needs to determine what's "too far" and what isn't. I mean we have Nicki up there singing Anaconda, Ariana up there singing about getting dicked down in a subtle way and JLO and Iggy shaking their asses for the camera. And then all the male artists singing about sex and whatever else.
Where do we draw the line? For heaven's sake, my own fave demonstrated oral sex with R. Kelly during her last performance on SNL and you don't see Queen losing gigs over it.

Miley faced so much backlash for the stuff she did last year...but she sold because she already established a huge base, ppl saw this as a phase that would go away, and so much other things that it isn't quite comparable imho
but i think it's hard to make definitive claims when he's only on his first album...he could very well end up making more open tracks

or since it's a break-up album...he is so disgusted in his ex that he doesn't even want to give him a gender or consider him as human...he should've just went with "it"
