I do't think that is the reason. I think it is because some of them truly are not racist and they don't understand why they are being hated upon. They were not born in era where being a bigot was rampant, they don't understand it. You can't fault people for wanting to move on when they don't understand what they want to move on from.

Macklemore is the only one who gets **** for it though, there are TONS of white male rappers other than him, and they never get called out.
