After two flop singles, R&B girl group Before Dark was getting desperate for success. Sensing an opportunity to repeat the magic that made “The Boy Is Mine” an iconic smash, they released this opening salvo accusing then-superstar Monica of stealing their mans. (Yes, all of them.) Ms. Arnold was too busy dealing with personal tragedy to get sucked into the feud, however, and the song stalled out at #77 on the Billboard Hot 100. No follow-up “Brandy” was ever attempted.
Best bit: probably a tie between “I caught the chicken at the crib with my nuh” and “Six! Strands! Of! Her! Hair!”
The music video... culminates with an awesome dance battle in an abandoned warehouse. One girl almost her gets her ass beat with trash can lids!
Really lopsided distribution of talent between those two.
Jesus.
They seem like one of those obnoxious couples that goes out for dinner and eats at the same side of the table, leaving the other side completely empty.
Thinking back on this.. Us Against The World deserved a 10. It's what this rate is all about.
It really is! The sweet Scandinavian hooks and tween appeal are the very essence of bubblegum pop.
And could have that music video have been made in any other era? No way! It's a perfect example of the awesomely over-the-top pop music scene I was discussing with lovesong yesterday.
Hm maybe I had to be around at the time, because I really don't have a strong opinion about most of these songs. I liked a good amount, but I only gave out 2 or 3 10's. Lemme re listen to some of them.
This deserves to be remembered, too. I used to know all the words!
EDIT: I still know all the words.
Man, I ****ing love you guys so much!
A few weeks back, I spent upwards of three hours prowling the internet, trying to remember the name of this awesome brah and his awesome song. I could remember parts of the video (particularly the bits filmed in the trailer park), though, for some reason I imagined a Nick Lachey cameo that didn't actually happen, so all of my Googling was a bit misguided.

In the grand scheme of things most of these songs are terrible. But nostalgia makes everything sound better
