Well technically they would be doing something different, because Tumblr/the internet wouldn't have been around/as big. The internet has exasperated all the negative traits of humanity, not to say it doesn't have its amazing uses etc, but it's desensitized and spread a lot of ignorance too. Obviously not saying the whole generation, but I was specifically referring to the online generation, and the majority of young people online are ignorant toward certain topics and do lack an ambition to take action in the world. I mean just look at most serious/political threads on ATRL, within seconds they're flooded with online "personas" and people trolling, and they sadly do outweigh the number of people who discuss things seriously. Not to say there weren't trolls or ignorance in other generations, but there is no denying that it's in a much greater amount nowadays.

They wouldn't be doing anything more worthwhile or anything more beneficial to humanity is what I meant.
Sure, the Internet's been used to desensitize people to a lot of things and been used as a vector for plenty of bad acts, but there've been just as many, if not more, good people and good causes brought together and brought about by the Internet as bad. You're only looking at the loud but incredibly minuscule minority.
Your opinion sounds more rooted in wistful nostalgia to pre-Internet times than anything factual.
