"Thanks to [Lorde's] vision, and her grip on the series' most important thematic elements, the 50 minutes of music behind Mockingjay Part 1 ably function as both a glance at 2014's finest purveyors of complex, downcast pop and a complement to the start of the series' chaotic, brutal conclusion."

"This is more than just a superior soundtrack album, and the 18-year-old prodigy can mark it off as another job expertly done. Her approach to alternative pop music is frighteningly adventurous."

Poor Lana del Soundtrack
Lettuce face it. Y&B is better than anything on the soundtrack besides Ladder song maybe.
Rih has such an ear for good music hence why you can clearly hear the Armenian duduk (an epic flute) in the background of Diamonds. I wish Gaga still had an ear for good music. Sigh.
Diamonds is my least favorite Rihanna song. Literally cannot stand it thanks to that horrible hook. Meanwhile, however, Stay is kinda wonderful and a really great song. There is a reason I heard it on AC all the time.
I still think something horrible is going to happen to Rih's career. Think Bionic x 12. Like, she's the only pop star to have performed in Turkey & Azerbaijan. I'll keep her in my prayers.
Though lots of distinctive voices are represented on the soundtrack, one person stands out. While Lorde's vocals are all over Mockingjay—from the swirling centerpiece "Yellow Flicker Beat" (and its Yeezus-tinted Kanye West rework) to supplementary vocals on "Meltdown" and a hook to the Miguel/Chemical Brothers collaboration "This Is Not a Game"—her presence elevates the project; you can feel the other stars on the soundtrack bringing their A-game out of respect for the project's core vision and passion.
