also Kylie's "Body Language", after the biggest album of her career, she goes a completely different route with this album when she could've continued doing dance-pop. It didnt pay off commercially, but its still a great album.
I agree. The sound and imagery of Body Language following the success of Fever was very risky. Especially releasing a lead single like "Slow". I think it's her best album too.
HML is pure pop ? Bloody Mary is pure pop ? Electric Chapel is pure pop ? The Queen is pure pop ? You and I is pure pop ? Americano is pure pop ? Highway Unicorn is pure pop ? Are u ****ing kidding me
BTW is from 80% dance-pop with some rock, folk and electronica influences/elements which arent used very cleverly and killed by overproducing in most cases
I would LOVE to have seen the music execs reactions to this. Coming right off of the SKANKTACULAR smash hit r&b/pop Stripped era, she suddenly wants to completely change her image and sound to become a CLASSY soul/blues/jazz singer dressed like she came straight out of the 20s-40s. If they didn't have a conniption right there, she then demands that it be a double disc album. They object because clearly this will cut dramatically into profits but she won't compromise on the double-disc. Then it turns out to be a success, they breathe a sigh of relief... and she comes to them and says "okay so now I want to be a cyborg and autotune the **** out of my legendary voice and slap it on some electronic beats, hope u don't mind lol". No wonder she had to pay for NMT's video out of pocket, her budget for the entire project must have been miniscule because the risk was just far too high to justify a proper budget. She's too polarizing. She said this was the direction she wanted to take during an interview while she was still promoting B2B, before the EDM craze settled in, so it must have truly sounded ludacris. Imagine being Xtina's manager and having to tell your boss what direction she was going in... Christina is the opposite of a "don't fix it if it's not broken" kind of gal. They must have been so relieved when Lotus was proposed...
Can someone explain to me why a lot of people are saying 4? I would have thought BEYONCE was much riskier than 4 (music wise, not marketing wise) but I'm clearly missing something here.
She Wolf: interesting tracks, but she was a bit late mixing her traditional folk world sounds with electro-Pop this was when the genre started to die down a bit post GAGA.
Rated R
Shakira. = mess. Decent tracks BUT will never forgive her for dedicating 95% of a damn album to her baby daddy and turning down tracks with ne-yo skrillex red one Akon and Afrojack.
All in all I still enjoy the albums mentioned above. I WAS HERE omg love that song.

Born This Way is risky, inventive and changed lives. Don't try it.

after IASF and very mainstream radio hits B returned to classic RnB without uptempo and more organic ballads.
