Not surprised there are layoffs at Capitol, Prism had SO much promotion, like an album in the early 00s would, and it sold really badly. 3.3m worldwide for an album with that much promo and with every track a Dr. Luke/Max Martin (who each charge like $300k per song) is not profitable, especially considering Katy doesn't have a 360 deal so all their revenue has to come from album/single sales alone.
I remember reading that most of Katy's bigger promo spots (album release promo, etc) were sponsored, so I don't think it would cost the label that much.
Seems like yesterday Azealia was arguing with the entire industry. Did she ever say she wanted to release it around this time?
