This again proves the double standard against women, he's essentially going through his Bangerz era and there's NO backlash of any kind. Then again he's not getting nearly as much success from it, but he was never as big as Miley and the music is a lot worse (Jealous is no We Can't Stop or Wrecking Ball).
If anything this Nick Jonas situation is interesting because the previous standard 101 transition for male teen stars into adulthood was to "act black" and now suddenly we've got a guy exploiting his sexuality in a way that's not really common for men. There's a reason why the reference point for Nick is Marky Mark....a full 23 years (!) ago.

Miley is way more of a celebrity/pop culture influence than he ever was, especially with her powerful connection to people who watched her go from Hannah Montana to Bangerz. She was a pop culture icon before the Bangerz era even began.
He's also doing things more subliminally and indirectly than her. For example, he may be pandering heavily to the gays on his show, photoshoots, and interviews, but his MVs and actual musical output remain non-controversial. She was totally direct and unapologetic about everything that she did, and her music and MVs heavily reflected that.
