BOMT and maybe Oops are iconic hits. Also, her meltdown was pretty crucial to 00s popular culture.
I wouldn't call her very influential, but a lot like Chris Brown in the sense that many artists identical to her popped up around her rise to fame, not because they were influenced by her, but because record labels were going with what they thought would work.
Also, she is the quintessential bubblegum Pop starlet - white girl with blonde hair, cute but with a sexy side, limited vocal talent, catchy Pop hits, etc.
Chris is/was nothing more than a Usher/MJ hybrid though. I doubt labels were looking for identical artists when he was no different from any of his predecessors.
It's funny Brittany sung a song called Alien. It's probably because youth, sales, good hygiene, rights and motherhood are so foreign to her these days.
one day you girls will realize that being remembered for something is better than being forgotten and useless
what is fad remembered by? nothing. not one thing.
when does anyone mention fad? who cares about IT and it's fat, succulent limbs? who cares about it's music or videos besides it's disgusting, lonely fans? it has nothing. all that hype and excitement, only to be forgotten a few years later. FLOP.
Gags will be remembered, if only truly in a Cyndi Lauper type way. As in, the LGBT community will remember and love her. And then, like, maybe 2-3 of her songs will get spins here and there.

And then she will write a musical and get 3/4 of the way to an EGOT
i'm not mad, but sometimes i just CANNOT believe how much she has fallen. she is a complete fad and i think we all need to be reminded of that from time to time!
