I find it so funny that a forum that talks about gender equality so much is hyped about "the biggest opening FOR A FEMALE" and even considers it a record

Not people thinking that 964,000 is 50.7% of her sales. If that were the case, there would be no point in releasing it in increments like this because people could just do the math and figure out the total sales. This just means that her sales currently stand at 964,000 based on 50.7% of retailers. It seems like the first update was the sales from Target (which were predicted to be ~400,000) and this second update was the sales from iTunes (which were predicted to be ~600,000). So now we are probably waiting on places like Walmart, Best Buy, FYE, Amazon, Google Play, etc.

Yeah, the next 50% will definitely be way lower compared to the first 50.
But it'll still be a lot.

We consider it a record because it is. Just like Eminem has the biggest for a male (and also for solo artist) and NSYNC has the biggest for a group (and also the biggest overall)

You're right, I think people are just getting hyped. It is a very exciting moment after all.

This.
I remember when Femme Fatale was like at 250,000 at 50% and a lot of the army thought that she would end up selling 500k like circus but when we got the other 50% update the album only went up like 25k lol...
I learned the hard way.

It is no different than the Grammys having male, female, and overall awards. There are male, female, and overall records.

I'm not trying to take away from the hype; I just don't want people thinking this means she is going to sell close to 2 million and then be disappointed.

Let's just compare 1989 and Blackout. Or Circus. Or whichever Baldney Shears' 5th album was.

I honestly don't think people are expecting her to do 2 million. ATRL members tends to exaggerate with things like this, I, being one of them. It's just a fun way of being excited, like, saying she is coming for NSYNC, when she clearly is not
You're not taking away from any hype at all sis. You're being realistic
