Taylor and any artist has the right to keep their music out of any streaming service they want if they think it helps them.
IMO I don't think it affects sales at all for an act as big as Taylord and it's a dumb move from Taylord's part. An average Spotify listener won't feel forced to buy and album just because it's not on Spotify. They will probably find the way to listen to it or not listen at all.

The money made from 1m streams on Spotify is equivalent to like a few hundred albums sold

Even if many people decide to just illegally download her music now, she'll get enough people buying it to make it at least break even with lost Spotify revenue.
I'm with Lord on this one. I can't believe people are bemoaning the decline of album sales this year, but then complaining when she does something about it. It might be too late to turn back on Spotify now, but it's worth a shot (and Taylor is one of the few who are powerful enough and already rich enough to try).
I truly believe poor sales are ruining music in general. Big artists have little incentive to put in the effort to make a great album if it's not going to sell millions. That's why we got a steaming pile of **** with MDNA. Why put in the effort to make your next Like a Prayer when you can crap out MDNA as an excuse to go on tour? Who cares what Britney Jean sounds like when there's way more money in a Vegas residency than album sales?
At the same time there is little incentive for labels to support amazing but left-of-center artists. I think about my girls Björk and Fiona Apple and wonder where they would be if they tried to start their careers in 2014. Back in the 80s and 90s they could sell a few million copies, so it was worth signing them. Nowadays they would probably be paid dust or struggling to support themselves on their meager streaming royalties.
