Elton John, Boy George, Freddie Mecury (Dead but part of Queen), Lady Gaga ...the problem isn't the fact they are gay, its the fact that most gay artists focus on teh fact they are gay ostracizing possible straight males and conservatives.
Wendy would flop harder than Tiffany. Mainly because she is boring and even more basic than Carly Rae Jepsen.

Anyway, Sam Smith is openly gay and has had one of the best years in terns of success. In terms of old singers, MIKA is successful around Europe, as well as the ones qmpierre said.
I don't wanna say 100% but 98% sure that nobody in SM has what it takes. I don't think they're even trying any longer anyway
Wendy - fluent English, can actually sing, pretty looks. Canadian nationality may work against her idk.
TTS - Tiffany fluent English, Seohyun passable if she lives in the US for a few months. Taeyeon main vocalist. Image and Taeyeon poor English might work against them.
Jessica & Krystal - Fluent English, sister appeal, fashion appeal, Jessica main vocalist. Stage presence may work against them.
Tiffany and Amber don't have a hope in hell as solo acts. Neither would Jessica or Krystal as separate acts.
In fact the only act in the whole of SM, male or female, who could have potential as a solo act would be Wendy.
The SM males have zero chance. Their style just doesn't translate into western appeal unfortunately. But then they shouldn't try to be something they aren't anyway.
I don't know why companies are trying in the US, when the tea is in Europe. I mean they don't have to change their sound that much to please European Radios. They already have a big shoutout at MTV EMA's.

It's all well and good to say she ticks all these boxes on paper but ultimately she's pretty damn boring from what we've seen of her so far and there isn't really any remarkable star quality about her to suggest she could pull off not only going solo but going solo in the US of all places. Like, what would be her thing? What music would she release as a soloist?

Have you watched her on Weekly Idol. She's crazy talented.
I could see her like a cross between a Taylor Swift/Ellie Goulding type artist. So sort of like guitar driven songs since she plays it, and also some pop/dance ones as well. Maybe some folk influences, but definitely commercialized like Taylor and Ellie.
I actually think she has a KFC bucket load of potential to be a great solo act.

France sucks for embracing other cultures though. UK would be fine for K-Pop debuts.
