"Stay" is so well-written for a hit single, that adds even more quality to it, and makes it more of a classic. People will cover it for decades to come.
I hate it when legends butcher songs like this, but because they're legends, it gives them some sort of justification for the fact that they butchered it
Kinda like when Bruce Springfeld ruined Royals.
They're legends because they're magnificent songwriters, like Bob Dylan
At least Bruce has a roaring voice on his own songs, because Patti and Bob's singing alone...
All of Rihanna's best songs are ballads and midtempos. Loveeeeeee Song, Good Girl Gone Bad, Man Down, Rehab, Diamonds, The Last Song, Stay, Te Amo. The only exception is Nobody's Business.
I'd actually like it if it was. If she's releasing in autumn/winter it makes sense to have slow sad ballads on the album, the GP also prefers them because they show her in a more grown up or mature light.
I'd love a 'Soldier Of Love' by Sade type album.

Since when
The rest are all great, but flops (except for Stay)

Yeah but I think that her ear for hits benefited her more.
She chose diamonds and stay, and both were written for their respective writers to sing but she made them better than the demos. Plus they'd have gone to waste of she didn't take them to be honest.
