On par? I don't know. Even though 1989 is also a "pure pop" record by a super commercial female recording artist, there's a genuine bittersweet undercurrent that flows through many of the tracks. PRISM feels so hollow and even gimmicky at some points. It's like Katy's songwriting skills evaporated once OOTB was done. She's much better than what she allows herself to be. It's a shame. Same thing with Kesha, but her circumstance obviously prevents her from reaching her full potential.

Wait
I didn't see this at first, but I agree completely. Especially with OOTB being her peak artistically. Even Katy Hudson had more substance than Prism
I ****ing HATE that Dr. Luke keeps shoving down our throats who he is working with... almost as much as i cant believe that Pitbull is still working with him.
I would literally die if the new record was only 9 tracks. As in, kill me now. Not here for this. Already voiced my opinions on albums with <11 tracks. Is she LITERALLY trying to be the next Flo Rida? I would genuinely rather no album tbh.
Not that Kesha has ever served genuine crap before, but alas. I don't think she's releasing anything anytime soon anyway though so this conversation is moot.
I would prefer something Lorde-esque, Lana-ish or Fleetwood Mack inspired or her channeling some indie-folk bands like First Aid Kit with mild success then a really successful album full of Die Youngs, even if she never lands a spot on the BB hot100 again (but she will obvs).
