Wow, and to think I said Go Girl's main fault was that it was good but not a lead single.

This song is kinda cute, it's not that bad.

There is so much wrong with this choice though, I don't even know where to start.
Sometimes doing something different works...but sometimes it does not. I don't think this is one of those times where it will work. The song is not bad, so it will do well on the urban charts/radio for a minute. But it's also not all that amazing, so when someone who is actually known for putting out ballads comes out with their next single, Ci's will fall off. She certainly is not crossing over with this.
Whoever said back on page one that it could have been a Jordin track is right (minus Jeezy of course)...Jordin would have smashed this IMO. BUT, that's because I have come to expect that from Jordin. Cute pop ballads is one of her niches and when something is your 'thing' you really get in your zone and make a good song even better. That really nails what the problem is with this song - not only is it not what anyone expected from Ci, it's also not her 'thing,' so while the song is pleasant she doesn't really take it to that level of awesomeness that she needs it to be. So now you have two groups of people - the ones who aren't feeling it b/c they wanted an uptempo song (I'll be honest, this is me), and the ones who aren't feeling it b/c it's just...cute. It's not a smash.
And Ci has a more lightweight voice (as much as I like it) so if she just felt like she HAD to do a damn ballad, she should have gotten one that was made to make her voice sound better, instead of on the edge of getting drowned out. I will use Rihanna as an example - Unfaithful, Hate That I Love You, Take a Bow, even Rehab though it's slightly more mid-tempo. (Speaking of Take a Bow, Madonna's TaB is another good example of a good ballad for a non-belter. Now that is an amazing song.)
I'm not saying Ciara should try to be like Rihanna but just that Rihanna picked good ballads for the voice she has. NE on the other hand sounds like it's waiting on a big voice to start wailing towards the bridge/end of the song and Cici can't do that. This isn't even comparable to Promise, which worked for her. NE is just not Ciara's type of song.
However, I still have a little hope for her. I say NE will make it to Valentine's Day and then disappear. Then, her second single is almost surely going to be upbeat and/or a club banger (like Oh) now and Never Ever will have fallen off by the time of her album release. She is going to have to release that second single, at the latest, a week or two before her album drops in order to keep the interest going, so hopefully that will be the hit that brings her album to the top.
BUT NO MORE BALLADS FOR SINGLES, CICI!
