The record was insane for 2000 though, at the time female artists did not have those kind of fan bases that rushed out like that, even mega selling artists like Mariah, Celine, Whitney had pretty ordinary first week sales. Britney was a game changer in that sense, the previous record holder for women before Oops was Alanis' Former Infatuation Junkie (coming off of 15x Plat Jagged Little Pill) with 465k :skull:
Wouldn't Appetite for Destruction have that? Idk the exact sales though
Anyway, holy ****
Oh I forgot Female debut album.

The monster and the fighters being so extra, the fact remains only 2 female have the record for a 1 mill debut album (w/o deals) like the article said.

Alanis didn't hold the record, Mariah did with Daydream with 760,000 copies

Wasn't Butterfly/Daydream by Mariah the holder for that record with ~700k?

It took a decade, Gaga was faster just an album apart.
Besides I don't think she will have a downfall like Britney she will get older and successful but it will decline like it happens to all artists X, Britney, Gaga, etc.

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - With Jive Records claiming that Britney Spears' sophomore album, "Oops!...I Did It Again," sold more than 500,000 copies on its first day of release, the teen sensation is poised to break the SoundScan record for highest sales in a week by a solo female artist. Mariah Carey's album "Daydream" holds the record of 760,000 units.

Oh
I thought we were just talking about most copies sold in single week, my mistake
His point still stands. She almost doubled the previous record at a time when female popstars weren't much of a force, the exception being Britney.
The point remains true now though. The highest any female artist other than Taylor Swift has gotten without now illegal tactics in almost a decade is ~600K.

Gaga would have done ~850k without the Amazon deal
