1989 is the first thing that's calmed me down waiting for Kesha. Beg For It is so good. I like it better than Iggy Szn, but that one is still nice.

Max Martin kind of slays Dr. Luke production wise, doesn't he? I'm only up to Style and already this and Blank Space are better than any of Luke's productions on Warrior tbh. The simplicity of Max's pure pop compered to Luke's try-hard 2012 electro-pop is very contrasting.

Max Martin has really stomped all over Luke this year, both in success (and quality, for me).
For someone to still be crafting hits since the late 90s all the way to 2014 is impressive.

What's the last big hit Luke had? It's either "Timber" or "Dark Horse", unless I'm forgetting something.

But at the same time, I don't know if I'd want a Max Martin-produced album from Kesha. Max is great at what he does, but his sound is very upbeat and sugary. I've always envisioned that Kesha's next record will be a darker, bruised and less formulaic.

They're his only #1 hits this year (and Top 10's, for that matter). Dark Horse was released after Timber and had more longevity and spent more time at #1 though, so that's his latest hit. Which is still pretty recent, I guess (despite being released in 2013).

IDK what to expect from Kesha's next record. Just something more authentic. But I hope that she still has happy pop songs, just with more meaningful lyrics instead of about going out partying lol. I wouldn't mind 3-4 Max Martin tracks on the next record. Not that she'll be working with him due to the whole Luke situation. But anyway.

It's a safer (if that's possible) yet more lyrically satisfying mash-up of Teenage Dream and PRISM, tbh. She (or Max) was soooo inspired by Katy on this record, the influences are so clear.

Exactly. I use Out of the Woods, All You Had to Do Was Stay, Bad Blood, I Know Places, Wonderland and New Romance (not in any specific order). Welcome to NY is god awful

I truly don't see how'd you think Katy influenced this album. What's most confusing is how you'd even conjure this idea, considering Katy has no noticeable sound of her own.

A lot of pop is interchangeable, but I see Taylor's spark in 1989. None sound like Katy sounds. The only song I could see is Style.

the production on the Max songs is more similar to his production on TD and PRISM than his other recent works with Jessie J and Ariana and the likes. A lot of the songs could definitely fit in with the sound of those albums

Again I don't agree. SIO is similar to BB & Problem, if you ask me. Not exactly the same, but similar.

My "pop is interchangeable" thing was mostly about production. I mean, you could say that about any album, really.

Out of the 5 tracks max produced on TD I'd say maybe elements of TD and LFN, but that's just because it's pop. Just like how electro sounds can sound similar. Rock songs can sound similar. It's all the same in pop and Katy certainly did not start it, so I wouldn't say it is influenced by her.

I was going to edit my post and say SIO was the only similar track to BB/Problem (it is) but I figured you'd post it. Which is why it was chosen as the lead single, it's the most "in the moment" sounding song on the record. The rest is very classical pure pop, a la TD and PRISM.

Let's not pretend that lots of people are just making simple POP music these days though. Carly Rae Jepson, perhaps? That's probably where Max decided to draw influence from, that would make more sense given Carly's chart slayage and all.

This was probably the wrong way to say it, but my point is still that Max's production on 1989 is generally more akin to Katy's recent records than any of his other recent works. Just my observation. It's not necessarily a Katy thing, but rather just that's the sound they were going for / could see being successful.
