I voted for "Dark Horse." I thought "Walking On Air" sounded so cheap and plasticy based on that clip, but was pleasantly surprised when it was released. That whole experience reminded me of when everyone had to listen to 30 second Amazon and iTunes snippets, and people would freak out at the time, only to find out later that the song was actually great or sucked.
"Dark Horse" still remains superior, but "Walking On Air," in my opinion, is one of the four big highlights, and a no-brainer single. Whether I consider them standouts or not, "Walking On Air," "Legendary Lovers," "Ghost," and "It Takes Two" are all so much more digestible than "Unconditionally" and "This Is How We Do." (And yeah, I love "Spirtual" just like the rest of you with good taste, and it might have done OK in 1998 and sold her some albums, but it would be dead on arrival).
Perhaps they don't want to oversaturate, but ever since "TIHWD" went for adds, and especially as of late, I've been hearing "Hot N' Cold," "Teenage Dream," "Firework," "Dark Horse," "Birthday," and "Roar" on the radio like they're in regular rotation (except you never know which one you're going to get). I think it's safe to say they'd embrace any of the aforementioned unreleased contenders.
If the era is over, though, it's only unfortunate because she followed up Teenage Dream with another album loaded with potential singles. As for her career, she's still the biggest pop star in the world. To be sure, she's headlining Super Bowl halftime. Everyone else who picks favorites has been seething ever since her team leaked the news. Yeah, Taylor's going to blow her album sales out of the water, but I doubt she'll have more than two or three hits, and likely nothing as memorable as "Dark Horse." Katy's first album had two huge hits, and so did her third. She'll be fine.
But she should release another single.
